Over the first week of October, Energy Pool began participating in the UKs transitional Capacity Market. The market allows participants access to a fully functioning and funded Capacity Market prior to the launch of the full scale Capacity Market in 2017. The Capacity Market is the UK governments delivery mechanism to make sure that the UK will always be able to produce the required level electricity to meet demand when there are stresses on the electrical system, such as intermittent generation from renewables, power station failure or adverse weather conditions.
The transitional, and full Capacity Market allows Energy Pool to further enhance its offering of Demand Response services to the UKs commercial sector. Using our excellent engineering and operational capabilities we are able to offer this service to a wide range of sectors in the UK which include some of the largest water companies, NHS trusts, manufacturing and research & development facilities.
Energy Pool has contracted a portfolio of companies offering a large volume of MWs to National Grid through the Capacity Market, which in turn, will generate hundreds of thousands of pounds for the companies that participate. The delivery of the service is made up from a mix of generation, and assets consuming electricity that can be turned down for a short period of time. This provides an environmental and economic benefit when meeting the requirements for delivering correct levels of electricity generation as opposed to the building of large conventional coal or gas generation plant.
If you are interested in finding out more about how the Capacity Market works, how you could participate, or any other Demand Response services, then please get in touch with us using the contact form and one of our account manager will be pleased to answer any questions that you may have.
